Back to School Night - Early in the fall, parents are invited to visit the school to learn about each teacher’s classroom operation, their objectives, direction, and expectations for the year. This night is vital in understanding what to anticipate in the upcoming school year.
Open House - As we prepare to receive new and interested parents and students for the next year, we offer Open House in April to allow any and all to review classrooms and experience a bit of The Learning Tree magic as the entire school displays
its very best for you.
Promotion Exercises - Each year we are pleased to promote our fifth graders to the middle school they have selected. In our 30 years of service, we are extremely proud to acknowledge in a special way and advance these fine young people to their next step in education.
Awards Assembly - As the months of the school year progress, students are honored for their academic and social achievements, however at the end of the year, all of our students are recognized for their individual accomplishments from throughout the year.
Book Fairs - Sharing the love of books by promoting the best sellers, the award winners, and the classics, our school provides two annual fairs with books and related materials for all students. These fairs last one full week each in the fall and again in spring on campus and sponsored by Scholastic Book Fairs.
Fall and Spring Fundraisers -
Co-sponsored by the Parent/Teacher Club and the administration to generate needed funds to further quality programming. Fundraising items are sold by the students during these drives and the students are rewarded with prizes and sustained programs.
Jump Rope for Heart - In conjunction with the American Heart Association, the students from The Learning Tree have, for the last 18 years, challenged themselves to jump rope continuously for three hours. Our students’ efforts are to raise money to assist in the fight against heart disease and to aid in heart research.
Golf Tournament - Our largest and most successful fundraiser. Supporters and friends annually enjoy an afternoon of Scramble Golf at Desert Springs Marriott and then proceed into the late afternoon with an auction and awards reception. Celebrities and golf pros participate and assist with
this fabulous event.
Western Family Barbecue - A fun-filled evening designed for the entire family to experience the Western lifestyle. Families dress up in Western attire while fellowship abounds with food, music, and dance. A petting area is setup with farm animals for the children to enjoy. Each class participates by giving a special presentation.
Family Night (Bingo Night/Drive-In Movie Night) - Students and their parents, relatives and friends come to join the fun at The Palm Desert Learning Tree Center. Enjoy bingo with great prizes. Everyone is a winner. Drive-In Movie night is a fun night watching a big screen movie and enjoy concessions just like the theaters.
Songfest - We appreciate that music is still alive and well at The Learning Tree Private School. We celebrate having music in our school and offer special renditions to and by all preschool through 5th Grade classes, during the month of December for our families and friends.
Grandparents’ Day - Students invite their grandparents to an afternoon “tea” to share in their school life The event is held on the front lawn with entertainment and refreshments.
Student-Parent Softball Games - “Batter Up!” Set this day aside as we combine parent and student skills and participate in our school’s favorite sport. Come and enjoy yourself as you and your child compete in a hilarious fun. All grades participate.
Halloween Costume Parade and Party - An annual activity that provides the pleasures of this seasonal event. Parent volunteers assist in the general acknowledgment of Halloween costumes, make-up, and the make-believe. All students receive a participation ribbon. Safety tips for “Trick or Treat” are shared and a fun classroom party concludes the day.
Holiday Secret Shop - An opportunity for students during the holiday season to purchase items for family and friends. A gift shop is established on campus for one full week and students are assisted with purchases for their loved ones.
Classroom Parties - A special time to sustain the spirit of a season and the Learning Tree family. Classroom exchanges of gifts, appreciation, and consideration of others play a large part towards each season of celebration. Parent support and assistance help acknowledge Thanksgiving, December Joy and the New Year, Valentine’s Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Easter, and more!
Sports Fun Day - One of our culminating events at the end of the school year provides a host of competitive activities including track and field, and other special skill events which sustain a strong spirit of sport participation.
Camp Out - A tradition second to none! Putting aside the conveniences of modern life, our elementary students and parent chaperones spend a night under the stars to celebrate the end of the school year. First, all parents, relatives, and friends enjoy a theatrical performance from each elementary class and a special skit by the Learning Tree faculty. Wild times continue as we share a meal and enjoy a full carnival of games, snacks, prizes, and special activities. By midnight, the campers are all asleep as we arise early for breakfast. The campsite (The Learning Tree’s sports field) begins to disappear as the Annual Campout comes to a close. There’s just nothing like it!
Riverside County Date Festival - Provides our students with an opportunity to display their talents in art. Several different media of art are displayed in the Junior Exhibition Building. Many of our students become award winners due to their participation.
Annual Spelling Bee - Through the efforts of dedicated teachers, an annual spelling contest has been introduced as a part of our special activities.
Science Fair - Riverside County sponsors this annual fair for students in 1st through 5th grades. In the Spring, students create investigative and experimental science projects that are first displayed at the school and then judged. The winning projects are sent as entries to Inland Empire Science and Engineering Fair.
